Our Drive-by interviews continue with a glimpse into the world of Norma Meyers.

What led you to art? I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making some kind of art. As a kid, a visit to the pen aisle in an art supply store was cause to celebrate. Macramé (yes it was the 70’s), beading, ceramics, metal clay, wood finishing, I love it all. I began making stained glass windows in my dad’s garage when I was a teenager. He’d cover the cost of the class and supplies if he got a finished product out of it. I took a break when our girls were little, only to return 11 years ago when I took a class in fused glass. I knew then I’d found my medium. I still dabble in different areas from time to time, but glass is my true love.

Is there something you are currently working on, or are excited about starting? I’m currently working on a series inspired by my Dad and his beloved oak trees. I recently visited them for likely the final time, as the house has been sold… and took photos which ultimately became the inspiration for these new works. The whole project has been both cathartic and rewarding. Plus, I’m working in a single color, which is something new and exciting.

Words to live by . . . a favorite quote or motto?

May I be guided to do that which is in my highest good, and the highest good of all life everywhere.

Who taught you the most about art? While I’ve had many influential teachers in my life, it’s Tim Harlan (a brilliant artist himself) who helped me discover my voice as an artist. He also taught me a whole lot about glass. I am forever grateful to him.

What simple pleasure brings you the most joy? Family, Friends, Food, Travel & Music
